Original Sin

The fallen state inherited by humanity from the first sin of Adam and Eve. It is not a personal act committed by their descendants but the deprivation of original holiness and justice, accompanied by a wounded human nature inclined toward sin. Baptism removes original sin while its temporal consequences remain.

Glossary: Concupiscence
The inclination toward sin that remains in human beings as a consequence of original sin even after Baptism. Concupiscence is not itself sin in the baptized unless freely consented to, but it creates an arena for spiritual struggle and growth in virtue.
Glossary: Immaculate Conception
The dogma that the Blessed Virgin Mary, from the first instant of her conception, was preserved by a singular grace of God from all stain of original sin in view of the merits of Jesus Christ. It concerns Mary’s conception, not the virginal conception of Jesus.
