Saint Francis of Assisi Medal – Silver-Plated ZAMAC – Made in Italy – 1″

Francis began with possessions, expectations, and the comfortable future of a merchant’s son. Then, little by little, he gave them away. What remained was a man determined to follow Christ with nothing standing between them.

This Saint Francis of Assisi Medal is a high-quality, Italian-made Catholic devotional medal crafted from silver-plated ZAMAC, a durable metal alloy composed primarily of zinc. Unlike inexpensive lightweight aluminum medals, its metal construction provides a more substantial character while retaining a compact size suited to everyday devotional use. Each medal measures approximately 22 × 15mm, or about 1 inch tall, and weighs approximately 2 grams.

Born in Assisi, Italy, around 1181 or 1182, Saint Francis of Assisi grew up amid the comforts and ambitions of a prosperous merchant family. His early dreams of worldly achievement gradually gave way to something entirely different: a desire to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ with extraordinary simplicity. Francis embraced poverty, cared for the poor and marginalized, preached repentance, and gathered companions who would become the foundation of the Franciscan Order. His spirituality was profoundly Christ-centered. Francis contemplated the humility of Christ in the manger, His presence in the Eucharist, and His suffering upon the Cross. Near the end of his life, while praying on Mount La Verna, Francis received the stigmata, the wounds corresponding to those of the Crucified Christ—a remarkable sign of the devotion to the Passion that had shaped his life.

Francis is also remembered for his profound sense of kinship with God’s creation. His Canticle of the Creatures praises God through Brother Sun, Sister Moon, the elements, and the created world. That legacy has made him especially beloved among those who care for animals, nature, and the environment. Yet Francis did not worship creation. He saw creation as a reason to worship the Creator. That distinction lies at the heart of Franciscan spirituality. The birds, fields, sun, moon, poverty, fraternity, and simplicity associated with Francis all point beyond themselves toward God.

Today, Saint Francis is honored as the patron saint of animals and ecology and remains one of the most beloved saints in Christianity. The silver-plated finish gives this medal a classic devotional appearance suitable for wearing on a medal chain or incorporating into Rosaries, chaplets, keychains, bracelets, and handmade Catholic gifts. Its compact one-inch size also makes it convenient to carry as a pocket medal. Made in Italy from silver-plated ZAMAC rather than lightweight aluminum, these medals are particularly well suited for Catholic retailers, Rosary and jewelry makers, Franciscan ministries, parish groups, retreats, pet-blessing events, sacramental gifts, and Catholic gift sets.

Give one to someone who loves animals. Carry one as a reminder to live more simply. Wear one as an invitation to see the gifts of creation with gratitude. Francis left behind almost everything the world told him to desire. And in doing so, he spent his life pointing toward the treasure he believed mattered most: Jesus Christ.
