Saint Anthony of Padua Medal – Silver-Plated ZAMAC – Made in Italy – 1″

Something has been lost. A key. A wedding ring. A document tucked away too carefully. Sometimes something greater—a direction, an opportunity, even a little hope. And for centuries, Catholics have turned in prayer to Saint Anthony of Padua.

This Saint Anthony Medal is a high-quality, Italian-made Catholic devotional medal crafted from silver-plated ZAMAC, a durable metal alloy composed primarily of zinc. Unlike inexpensive lightweight aluminum medals, its more substantial metal construction gives it the traditional character of a devotional medal while remaining compact enough for everyday wearing or carrying. Each medal measures approximately 22 × 15mm, or about 1 inch tall, and weighs approximately 2 grams.

Born Fernando Martins de Bulhões in Lisbon around 1195, Saint Anthony first entered religious life among the Augustinians. Inspired by the witness of Franciscan missionaries, he later joined the followers of Saint Francis of Assisi, taking the name Anthony. His extraordinary gift for preaching soon became apparent. Anthony traveled through Italy and southern France, preaching the Gospel with clarity and conviction. His knowledge of Sacred Scripture was so remarkable that Pope Gregory IX reportedly referred to him as the “Ark of the Testament.” Centuries later, Pope Pius XII declared him a Doctor of the Church.

Catholic art commonly portrays Anthony holding the Child Jesus, often together with a book and lily. The book recalls his learning and preaching of Scripture. The lily represents purity. The Child Jesus reflects a longstanding devotional tradition concerning Anthony’s profound contemplation and love of Christ. But perhaps no aspect of his popular devotion is better known than his association with lost things. Catholics throughout the world invoke Saint Anthony when something has gone missing, and over generations his patronage has broadened beyond misplaced possessions. People seek his intercession when searching for what has been lost materially and when asking God for guidance amid life’s more difficult uncertainties. The devotion is not a guarantee that every missing object will be recovered. Nor is a Saint Anthony medal a lucky charm. Like other Catholic sacramentals, the medal serves as a tangible reminder of prayer and of the communion of saints, ultimately directing the faithful toward Jesus Christ.

The silver-plated finish gives this medal a classic Catholic appearance suitable for wearing on a medal chain or incorporating into Rosaries, chaplets, bracelets, keychains, and handmade devotional gifts. Its compact one-inch size also makes it convenient as a pocket medal or a small addition to a prayer card, Rosary pouch, or Catholic gift set. Made in Italy from silver-plated ZAMAC rather than lightweight aluminum, these medals are particularly well suited for Catholic retailers, Rosary and jewelry makers, Franciscan ministries, parish groups, retreat programs, and sacramental gifts. Wear one around the neck. Attach one to a Rosary. Keep one close when something seems difficult to find. And remember the saint behind the medal—a Franciscan preacher who spent his life helping others find something greater than anything that could be misplaced: Jesus Christ.
