Saint Padre Pio Medal – Silver-Plated ZAMAC – Made in Italy – 1″
Pray. Hope. And do not worry. Few words have become more closely associated with Saint Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, the Capuchin friar whose life of prayer, suffering, Confession, and devotion to the Holy Eucharist made him one of the most beloved Catholic saints of the twentieth century.
This Saint Padre Pio Medal is a high-quality, Italian-made Catholic devotional medal crafted from silver-plated ZAMAC, a durable metal alloy composed primarily of zinc. Unlike inexpensive lightweight aluminum medals, its more substantial metal construction gives it the traditional character of a devotional medal while remaining compact enough for everyday wearing or carrying. Each medal measures approximately 22 × 15mm, or about 1 inch tall, and weighs approximately 2 grams.
Born Francesco Forgione in Pietrelcina, Italy, in 1887, the future Padre Pio entered the Capuchin Franciscans as a young man and was ordained a priest in 1910. His priesthood would become inseparable from two places of encounter with Christ:
the altar and the confessional.
Padre Pio celebrated Mass with profound reverence and encouraged the faithful to remain close to Jesus in the Eucharist. He also spent long hours hearing Confessions, calling people toward repentance, conversion, and the mercy of God. In 1918, Padre Pio received the stigmata, wounds corresponding to those of the Crucified Christ. These remained associated with him for decades and brought enormous attention to a friar who nevertheless continually sought to direct people away from fascination with himself and toward Jesus Christ. His spirituality was deeply rooted in prayer. Padre Pio encouraged the Rosary, devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, frequent reception of the sacraments, trust in Divine Providence, and perseverance during suffering. The words commonly associated with him—“Pray, hope, and don’t worry”—continue to express the confidence in God that characterized his spiritual counsel. His concern for suffering was practical as well as spiritual. Padre Pio inspired the establishment of the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza, the “Home for the Relief of Suffering,” a hospital opened near San Giovanni Rotondo in 1956. He died there in 1968 after a life spent largely in the service of souls. Pope Saint John Paul II canonized Saint Pio of Pietrelcina in 2002.
Today, Catholics throughout the world seek Padre Pio’s intercession in times of illness, anxiety, suffering, spiritual difficulty, and the ordinary struggles of Christian life. His example especially encourages devotion to the Eucharist, Confession, the Rosary, and Christ Crucified. A Padre Pio medal is not a lucky charm and should not be regarded as possessing magical or independent spiritual power. Like other Catholic sacramentals, it serves as a tangible reminder to pray, imitate the virtues of the saint it depicts, and place one’s confidence ultimately in God.
The silver-plated finish gives this medal a classic Catholic appearance suitable for wearing on a medal chain or incorporating into Rosaries, chaplets, bracelets, keychains, and handmade devotional gifts. Its compact one-inch size also makes it convenient as a pocket medal or an addition to a Padre Pio prayer card, Rosary pouch, or Catholic gift set. Made in Italy from silver-plated ZAMAC rather than lightweight aluminum, these medals are particularly well suited for Catholic retailers, Rosary and jewelry makers, Franciscan and Capuchin ministries, parish groups, retreats, prayer ministries, and sacramental gifts.
Wear one. Carry one beside a Rosary. Give one to someone passing through a difficult season. And remember the simple counsel that continues to lead countless Catholics back to trust: Pray. Hope. And do not worry.
