Saint Anne Medal – Silver-Plated ZAMAC – Made in Italy – 1″

Before Mary held the Child Jesus in Bethlehem, tradition remembers another mother holding Mary. Her name was Anne. The Gospels do not tell us the names of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s parents, but ancient Christian tradition preserved them as Saint Anne and Saint Joachim. Through the centuries, Saint Anne has consequently been honored as the mother of Mary and the grandmother of Jesus Christ.

This Saint Anne Medal is a high-quality, Italian-made Catholic devotional medal crafted from silver-plated ZAMAC, a durable metal alloy composed primarily of zinc. Unlike inexpensive lightweight aluminum medals, its more substantial metal construction gives it the traditional character of a devotional medal while remaining compact enough for everyday wearing or carrying. Each medal measures approximately 22 × 15mm, or about 1 inch tall, and weighs approximately 2 grams.

The names Anne and Joachim come to us through early Christian tradition, particularly the ancient Protoevangelium of James. Although this text is not part of Sacred Scripture, the tradition surrounding Mary’s parents became deeply rooted in Christian devotion. Saint Anne’s place within salvation history is quiet but beautiful. She stands one generation before the events recorded in the Gospel. Catholic tradition remembers Anne and Joachim as the parents who welcomed Mary into their home, raised her in faith, and prepared the child who would one day answer the angel Gabriel: “May it be done to me according to your word.”

Sacred art frequently depicts Saint Anne together with the young Virgin Mary, sometimes teaching her from a book. The image has become a particularly tender symbol of parents and grandparents passing the faith from one generation to the next. Other representations show Anne, Mary, and the Child Jesus together, visually connecting three generations of a family uniquely woven into the mystery of the Incarnation. For this reason, Saint Anne has long been invoked as a patron of mothers, grandmothers, women, families, and those praying for children. Devotion to her can be especially meaningful for those entrusted with the quiet work of forming children in the Catholic faith.

Teaching a prayer. Bringing a child to Mass. Telling the stories of the saints. Placing a Rosary into small hands. These ordinary acts may appear modest, but the devotion to Saint Anne reminds Catholic families that faith is often handed down precisely this way—from one generation to another. A Saint Anne medal is not a lucky charm or a guarantee that a particular prayer will be answered in the manner requested. Like other Catholic sacramentals, it serves as a tangible invitation to prayer, remembrance, and imitation of Christian virtue, ultimately directing devotion toward Jesus Christ. The silver-plated finish gives this medal a classic Catholic appearance suitable for wearing on a medal chain or incorporating into Rosaries, chaplets, bracelets, keychains, and handmade devotional gifts. Its compact one-inch size also makes it convenient as a pocket medal or an addition to a Saint Anne prayer card, Rosary pouch, or Catholic gift set. Made in Italy from silver-plated ZAMAC rather than lightweight aluminum, these medals are particularly well suited for Catholic retailers, Rosary and jewelry makers, parish ministries, women’s groups, family ministries, sacramental programs, and devotional gift sets.

Give one to a mother. Give one to a grandmother. Give one to someone quietly teaching another generation how to pray. For long before the journey to Bethlehem, Christian tradition remembers a faithful home in which a little girl named Mary first learned the things that mothers teach their children. And through Mary, that family story would lead ultimately to Jesus Christ.
