A title referring principally to the See of Rome because of its association with the apostles Peter and Paul and the primatial ministry of the Bishop of Rome. In canonical usage, “Apostolic See” or “Holy See” includes the pope and, unless context indicates otherwise, institutions assisting him in governing the universal Church.
