The third Person of the Most Holy Trinity, true God with the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit proceeds eternally from the Father and, in Catholic teaching, from the Father and the Son as from one principle; he gives life, sanctifies the Church, inspires Scripture, distributes spiritual gifts, and dwells in the faithful.
