A special holy year or period proclaimed by ecclesiastical authority for intensified conversion, pilgrimage, reconciliation, prayer, and works of mercy. Papal jubilees draw on the biblical idea of jubilee and commonly include particular opportunities for indulgences under the conditions established by the Church.
