The dimension of Christian spiritual life concerned with an especially profound experiential awareness of God and union with him through grace. Catholic mysticism remains subject to revealed faith, moral life, ecclesial discernment, and the sacraments; extraordinary phenomena are neither necessary for holiness nor the essence of mystical union.
