A sacred sign instituted by the Church that prepares people to receive the fruit of the sacraments and sanctifies various circumstances of life. Sacramentals include blessings, blessed objects, certain rites, and devotional practices; unlike the seven sacraments, they do not confer grace in the same manner ex opere operato.
