Biography:

Saint John XXIII transformed twentieth-century Catholic history by convoking the Second Vatican Council. Initially seen by some as a transitional figure, he instead brought pastoral warmth, spiritual confidence, and openness to aggiornamento, or renewal.

His encyclicals, especially Pacem in Terris, broadened the moral voice of the papacy in a nuclear age. By calling the council, he set in motion reforms and debates that still shape the Church.

John XXIII’s legacy is luminous and enduring: he reopened the windows of the Church and invited Catholicism into a new relationship with the modern world.
