The Catholic Pyx with Sacred Heart of Jesus is a small sacred vessel designed for this solemn ministry, providing clergy and duly appointed extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion with a secure and dignified means of carrying the consecrated Host.
The lid bears a beautifully detailed relief of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, one of the Church’s most beloved images of Christ’s sacrificial and merciful love. The Heart is surrounded by the crown of thorns, marked by the wound of Christ’s Passion, crowned with flames, and surmounted by the Cross. An antiqued treatment within the relief brings depth and definition to these traditional symbols, while the surrounding polished silver-tone metal gives the pyx a dignified appearance appropriate to its sacred purpose.
Compact and portable, the circular vessel is designed to be carried discreetly when bringing Holy Communion to the sick and homebound. A secure closure at the edge helps keep the pyx closed during transport. Also traditionally known as a teca or porta viático, the pyx belongs to a centuries-old Catholic ministry of bringing the Eucharistic Lord to those who, because of illness, age, or other serious circumstances, cannot be present with the parish community at Mass.
