Saint Benedict Round Medal – Silver-Plated ZAMAC – Made in Italy – 0.75″

It is a small medal filled with an extraordinary amount of meaning. A Cross. A saint. A collection of letters that seem mysterious until their prayers are known. And at the heart of it all stands the same declaration that shaped the life of Saint Benedict: Christ above all things.

These Saint Benedict Oval Medals are high-quality, Italian-made Catholic devotional medals crafted from silver-plated ZAMAC, a durable metal alloy composed primarily of zinc. Unlike inexpensive lightweight aluminum medals, their metal construction provides a more substantial character while preserving a compact size suitable for personal devotional use. Each oval medal measures approximately 0.75″ in diameter, and weighs approximately 2 grams. The medal bears the imagery associated with Saint Benedict of Nursia, the sixth-century founder whose Rule became one of the foundations of Western monastic life.

Benedict organized his communities around prayer, work, obedience, humility, hospitality, and perseverance in seeking God. His Rule of Saint Benedict would eventually influence monasteries throughout Europe and generations of Christians far beyond the cloister. The devotional medal associated with his name developed through the Benedictine tradition and contains some of Catholicism’s most recognizable symbolism surrounding the Holy Cross. Its familiar initials represent traditional Latin prayers. Among them is:

C S S M L — Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux
May the Holy Cross be my light.

Another continues:

N D S M D — Non Draco Sit Mihi Dux
Let not the dragon be my guide.

The medal also incorporates the initials of a traditional prayer rejecting temptation and evil, making the Saint Benedict Medal especially associated with the Holy Cross, resistance to temptation, spiritual protection, and confidence in Christ’s victory over evil. Catholics do not regard the Saint Benedict Medal as a magical charm. Like other sacramentals, its purpose is to encourage prayer and faith and to direct the person wearing or carrying it toward Jesus Christ and His Cross.

The oval profile gives this version a traditional medal appearance, while the silver-plated finish complements Rosaries, medal chains, devotional jewelry, keychains, and other Catholic articles. Its compact one-inch height also makes it useful for incorporating into handmade Catholic gifts or carrying as a pocket medal. Made in Italy and constructed from silver-plated ZAMAC rather than lightweight aluminum, these medals are particularly suitable for Catholic retailers, Rosary makers, parish ministries, retreat groups, sacramental gifts, and anyone seeking a more substantial Saint Benedict devotional medal.

Attach one to a Rosary. Wear one with a medal chain. Carry one as a reminder of prayer. However small the medal may be, the prayer at its heart remains larger: May the Holy Cross be my light.
