Saint Rita of Cascia Medal – Silver-Plated ZAMAC – Made in Italy – 1″

Her life did not unfold gently. There was marriage and hardship. There was loss. There was forgiveness. And through it all, Saint Rita of Cascia learned to place circumstances that seemed beyond human repair into the hands of God.

This Saint Rita Medal is a high-quality, Italian-made Catholic devotional medal crafted from silver-plated ZAMAC, a durable metal alloy composed primarily of zinc. Unlike inexpensive lightweight aluminum medals, its more substantial metal construction gives it the traditional character of a devotional medal while remaining compact enough for everyday wearing or carrying. Each medal measures approximately 22 × 15mm, or about 1 inch tall, and weighs approximately 2 grams.

Born Margherita Lotti around 1381 near Cascia, Italy, Rita desired religious life from an early age. Instead, she married and became a wife and mother. Her family life was marked by difficulty. After her husband was killed amid the violence and rivalries of the period, Rita responded not by embracing vengeance but by seeking forgiveness and reconciliation. Following the deaths of her husband and sons, Rita eventually entered the Augustinian monastery of Saint Mary Magdalene in Cascia, where she devoted the remainder of her life to prayer, penance, charity, and contemplation of Christ’s Passion.

Her devotion to Jesus Crucified became one of the defining elements of her spirituality. According to tradition, while praying before a crucifix, Rita asked to share more deeply in the suffering of Christ. She subsequently received a wound on her forehead associated with a thorn from Christ’s Crown of Thorns, a sign that became one of the most recognizable features of her sacred imagery. Another beloved tradition surrounding Rita concerns a rose. Near the end of her life, while she was ill, Rita asked a relative to bring her a rose from the garden of her former home. Although it was winter, tradition holds that a single rose was found blooming.

The rose consequently became another enduring symbol of Saint Rita—not as a magical sign or promise of a particular outcome, but as an image of hope amid circumstances that appear impossible. Through the centuries, Catholics increasingly sought Rita’s intercession in troubled marriages, family conflicts, grief, illness, and situations for which no easy human solution seemed to remain. She became affectionately known as a patron saint of impossible and difficult causes. Yet Saint Rita’s life offers more than a devotion for desperate moments. She was a wife. A mother. A widow. A peacemaker. A religious sister. And a woman who repeatedly encountered suffering without allowing suffering to have the final word.

A Saint Rita medal is not a lucky charm and does not guarantee that a prayer will be answered in the particular manner requested. Like other Catholic sacramentals, it serves as a tangible invitation to prayer and perseverance, encouraging the faithful to seek the saint’s intercession while placing their ultimate confidence in Jesus Christ. The silver-plated finish gives this medal a classic Catholic appearance suitable for wearing on a medal chain or incorporating into Rosaries, chaplets, bracelets, keychains, and handmade devotional gifts. Its compact one-inch size also makes it convenient as a pocket medal or an addition to a Saint Rita novena, prayer card, Rosary pouch, or Catholic gift set. Made in Italy from silver-plated ZAMAC rather than lightweight aluminum, these medals are especially well suited for Catholic retailers, Rosary and jewelry makers, Augustinian ministries, parish prayer groups, retreats, novena gifts, and those seeking a meaningful devotional reminder during difficult circumstances.

Wear one. Carry one through a difficult season. Give one to someone who has reached the place where human answers seem to have run out. Saint Rita’s life reminds us that even there, one thing remains possible: to pray, to forgive, and to trust in God.
