Pope Callistus II was born with the given name of Guy of Burgundy in the year A.D., and died in A.D. He also presided over the First Lateran Council, which ratified the settlement and strengthened reform principles in ecclesiastical law and discipline. Under him the papacy demonstrated both firmness and pragmatic diplomacy.
