Altar

The sacred table upon which the Eucharistic Sacrifice is celebrated. In Catholic theology and liturgy, the altar signifies Christ himself, both priest and victim, and is treated with particular reverence through consecration or blessing, kissing, incensation, and other prescribed rites.
