The act by which a person, place, or object is solemnly dedicated to God or sacred use. In the Eucharist, “consecration” commonly refers to the part of the Eucharistic Prayer in which, through Christ’s words and the action of the Holy Spirit, bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ.
