Ciborium

A square white linen cloth placed on the altar upon which the chalice, paten, and ciborium are set during the Eucharistic liturgy. Its use reflects special care for the consecrated species.

Worship of Jesus Christ truly present in the Blessed Sacrament outside Mass. It may take place before the Eucharist reserved in the tabernacle or solemnly exposed in a monstrance or ciborium and is always ordered toward deeper participation in the Eucharistic mystery.

The liturgical placement of the consecrated Eucharist in a monstrance or ciborium for public adoration. Exposition is governed by liturgical norms and ordinarily concludes with reposition; when a priest or deacon is present, Benediction may be given according to the rite.
