A form of Catholic piety that fosters love of God and growth in holiness without belonging to the Church’s official liturgy in the same way as the sacraments or Liturgy of the Hours. Examples include the Rosary, novenas, pilgrimages, and devotion to the Sacred Heart. Authentic devotions lead toward, rather than replace, liturgical and sacramental life.
