Latin for “and the Son,” a phrase used in the Latin form of the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed to profess that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son. The expression became a major point of dispute between Eastern and Western Christians; Catholic teaching affirms the Father as the first origin while maintaining the Spirit’s eternal procession from the Father through or with the Son.
