An extraordinary event attributable to divine power and surpassing the ordinary powers of created nature. In Scripture miracles function as signs of God’s action and the coming of his kingdom. The Church examines alleged miracles carefully, particularly in causes of canonization and reports of extraordinary religious phenomena.
