A grave sin that destroys charity in the heart and deprives the sinner of sanctifying grace. For a sin to be mortal, three conditions must together be present: grave matter, full knowledge, and deliberate consent. Reconciliation with God is ordinarily sought through sacramental confession before receiving Holy Communion.
