A successor of the apostles who possesses the fullness of the sacrament of Holy Orders. A bishop is consecrated to teach, sanctify, and govern; a diocesan bishop exercises pastoral care over a particular church entrusted to him in communion with the Roman Pontiff and the college of bishops.
