Anointing of the Sick

« Back to Glossary Index

One of the seven sacraments, instituted by Christ for baptized persons who begin to be in danger because of sickness or old age. Through prayer and anointing with blessed oil by a priest, the sacrament confers strengthening, peace, courage, forgiveness when appropriate, and union with Christ’s Passion; it is not reserved only for the moment of death.
