Ash Wednesday

The first day of Lent in the Roman Rite. The faithful are marked with blessed ashes as a sign of repentance and mortality. It is a day of fasting and abstinence for those bound by the Church’s law and begins the forty-day penitential preparation for Easter, excluding Sundays from the traditional count.
